Cents Per Point FAQ
What counts as a good cents-per-point value?
This calculator treats 1.5 cents per point or higher as an excellent redemption for general flexible points, and anything below 1.0 cent per point as below average. Individual programs vary: World of Hyatt runs 2.0 to 2.3 cents per point, Chase Ultimate Rewards and Amex Membership Rewards run 1.5 to 2.0, and hotel programs like Hilton Honors and IHG One Rewards typically run 0.5 to 0.7.
How does this calculator work out cents per point?
Enter the points required, the cash price of the same booking, and any taxes or fees you still pay on the award. The calculator subtracts the taxes and fees from the cash price, divides that by the number of points, and multiplies by 100 to give you cents per point.
Which points program is worth the most, based on the ranges in this tool?
World of Hyatt points are the highest, at 2.0 to 2.3 cents per point. Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, and Bilt Rewards follow at 1.5 to 2.0 cents. Hotel programs like Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, and IHG One Rewards land lowest, between 0.5 and 1.0 cents per point.
Do I need to enter taxes and fees to get an accurate result?
No, the taxes and fees field is optional. If you leave it blank, the calculator treats it as $0 and compares the full cash price against the points required.
What should I select if I do not know my program's typical value?
Choose General (any flexible points) from the program dropdown. It compares your redemption against a 1.0 to 1.5 cents-per-point baseline used across flexible transferable currencies.
